Reflections on #RepealThe8th
At the start of the month, I was lucky enough to travel to Ireland with several other women from Scotland to lend a hand with the campaign to Repeal the 8th amendment and allow women to access abortion in Ireland.
It was an amazing weekend and the campaign feels so positive – on our first day we joined 175 volunteers delivering leaflets across Dublin. With one week to go until the referendum, I’ve written a few thoughts about my time there.
#Engender25: 25 Years of Success...and still going
Engender is working with the University of Stirling to host student Karen Watson who will be exploring Engender's archives as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary.
In Karen's final blog, she reflects on her placement, and her findings in the various Engender archives.
On the Engender: why gender budgeting matters
Most women care about gender budgeting; we just don’t call it that. This spring I’ve been chatting to women around Scotland as part of our work on women's rights, through webinars, workshops and our online survey. And throughout these discussions, whether it’s questioning why Glasgow council decided to increase childcare costs by 57% this year, talking about the poor public transport links in Aberdeen, or celebrating the recent initiatives to tackle period poverty in Dumfries and Galloway, money has been on our mind.
Repeal the 8th - how can you help?
Want to help the Mná na hÉireann? (Women of Ireland)
On Friday May 25th people in Ireland will be able to vote on whether or not to repeal the 8th Amendment, which "acknowledges the right to life of the unborn" and results in a near-total ban on abortion.
Even if you're not eligible to vote in the referendum, there are still plenty of things you can do to help, and we've listed some of them below.
Let us know any we've missed in the comments!
