Engender is Scotland’s feminist policy organisation, working for women’s equality in politics, in the economy, and in all aspects of our society.

This page will list any vacancies we currently have for paid and voluntary positions.

About volunteering with Engender

We currently don't have any volunteering positions at Engender, outwith our board. We have a standing recruitment cycle for Board members and are always keen to find talented and motivated people to join. If you would like to register an interest in being considered for the Board during our next recruitment cycle please contact us at: info@engender.org.uk

We occasionally work with universities to offer placements to students who need to complete a project with an organisation as part of their degree programme.

About paid work at Engender

As a feminist employer we strive to reflect our principles in our practice and are proud of the wide range of flexible working opportunities that we are happy to consider. This includes, but is not limited to; home working, tele working, condensed hours, annualised hours, term-time working, flexible hours of work, part-time / reduced hours and job-share. We are open to discussing individual requests.

If you have any questions about our flexible working opportunities or would like an answer to a specific question please contact recruitment@engender.org.uk. Any such contact will be treated anonymously and will not impact your application.

Engender’s has an office on Rose Street in Edinburgh and in Baltic Chambers in Glasgow. At the moment, many events and activities are still taking place online and all staff are either working remotely or in a hybrid way between home and office. In some instances, staff will be required to be in Edinburgh or Glasgow, but the frequency of this depends on their role. At other times, home or hybrid working is an option for staff that choose it.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at Engender

Engender exists to promote women’s equality in Scotland and to challenge the structural discrimination that persists in our society and communities. To do this effectively, it is crucial that our team understands and reflects a diversity of perspectives. We therefore want to encourage and support applications from people from a range of backgrounds, including those that may be under-represented in the NGO Sector in Scotland, including but not limited to, people from minority ethnic communities, people with disabilities, LGBT communities and people who have experienced economic deprivation.

To ensure that our staff thrive and succeed at Engender, we are working to create a workplace that is inclusive, accessible, flexible and fair, and where differences in background, culture, identity and lived experience are valued and respected.

Before applying, please read this document with information about the recruitment process, application guidance and frequently asked questions. We've also produced a video which talks through the application process here:

*please note that we have recently made some minor changes to the format of application form. So the form you see onscreen in this video is slightly different to the one you will fill in. But the general advice remains the same.
