Guest Post: Plan F for feminist: An alternative to the UK government's economic 'Plan A'.

As Frances O’Grady argues in the foreword to the CLASS publication “Election 2015: What’s at stake for work, pay and unions?” the forthcoming election is “a chance to reject a broken economic system”. That encapsulates the arguments from a feminist economics and feminist political analysis of the current economic system and the policy responses of the UK government that are increasingly harmful to women’s wellbeing and their economic and social autonomy.
We celebrated IWD by talking about women's equality & Scotland's futures
Our International Women's Day conference on 7 March brought together 150 women to talk about women's equality in the context of the independence referendum. We were hosted at Glasgow City Chambers by Councillor Martha Wardrop, and in these lavish surroundings we launched our report on equality and the current division of power and responsibility between Holyrood and Westminster.

The Engender staff and board are sad to have lost a sister, friend, and inspirational feminist economist in Professor Ailsa McKay.
Ailsa had a profound effect on the community of women in Scotland who work for gender equality. She founded the Scottish Women’s Budget Group, which campaigned for a gender budget analysis of the Scottish Budget. She established the Women in Scotland’s Economy Research Centre at Glasgow Caledonian University. She was an internationally acclaimed academic, who convened conferences in Glasgow that brought together the finest feminist economists in the world.
