On The Engender - The Gender Recognition Act and Women's Equality

The latest episode of On the Engender is all about the Gender Recognition Act, and features Emma Ritch, Marsha Scott from Scottish Women’s Aid, Mridul Wadhwa from Rape Crisis Scotland and Becky Kaufmann from Scottish Trans Alliance. We know lots of people may not be totally up to speed with the Gender Recognition Act, the proposed changes, and the role of national women’s organisations, and we hope this is a helpful tool to help understand why we support the changes to the Act.
A couple of things really struck me during the podcast recording.
On the Engender: why gender budgeting matters
Most women care about gender budgeting; we just don’t call it that. This spring I’ve been chatting to women around Scotland as part of our work on women's rights, through webinars, workshops and our online survey. And throughout these discussions, whether it’s questioning why Glasgow council decided to increase childcare costs by 57% this year, talking about the poor public transport links in Aberdeen, or celebrating the recent initiatives to tackle period poverty in Dumfries and Galloway, money has been on our mind.
On the Engender: Women in Scotland's criminal justice system
This month I was privileged to host our podcast recording on women in the criminal justice system. Even though Scotland incarcerates more women than almost any other country in Northern Europe, this is an area which I’m ashamed to say I hadn’t given much thought before working for Engender*.
