Gender Matters and #GenerationEqual: Shifting the needle on equality for women and girls

Eighteen months after our Scotland's Feminist Future conference and the launch of our Gender Matters Roadmap, our Executive Director Emma Ritch considers positive progress alongside the recently released first set of recommendations from the First Minister's National Advisory Council on Women & Girls.

Amid the weekly grind of Scottish Parliament committee sessions, working group meetings, consultations launching and closing, and streams of papers flowing in and out of the office, it’s a challenge for a policy and advocacy organisation like Engender to keep our focus on what lies over the horizon: a better world for women and girls.

Scotland's Programme for Government - what's in it for women?

In the past week there’s been a slight autumn chill in the air in the mornings, and a pleasing back-to-school vibe in genderland that speaks of newly sharpened pencils and fresh notebooks.

Autumn is a season of new beginnings, as well as mellow fruitfulness, and the last few days has seen the launch of Scotland’s Programme for Government as well as Engender’s own Gender Matters Roadmap.

Feminists launch roadmap for women’s equality in Scotland

Today we have launched our 'Gender Matters Roadmap', setting out the actions we believe Scottish Government need to take to help women achieve equality in Scotland. The roadmap was launched at 'Scotland's Feminist Future', our two day conference celebrating feminist change in Scotland.

The report calls for government actions in 10 key areas, including care, violence against women, employment and health, and contains actions aimed at a more equal Scotland for women by 2030.
