Policy

Engender is Scotland's feminist policy and advocacy organisation.

Engender's Gender Matters Roadmap

sets out the policy changes which need to happen to bring women's equality closer. It is divided into ten key areas:

  • Care
  • Education and Training
  • Employment and the Labour Market
  • Health
  • Media, the Arts and Sport
  • Politics and Public Life
  • Public Space
  • Social Security
  • Violence Against Women
  • Women's Rights and Fair Economy

You can download the Gender Matters Roadmap here, or visit its dedicated website at gendermatters.engender.org.uk.

While we work on all the areas listed above, there are some which we focus on more at key moments in the year.

Policy research, briefings and consultations

In our Publications section you can find all of Engender's Research and Analysis, our Consultation Responses, our International Reports, and Activity Reports.

Engender also works to influence political parties and governments at key moments, producing manifestos for key elections, and producing gender edits of key documents.

International work

Engender represents Scotland on the UK Joint Committee on Women, and in 2018 worked to consult with women on the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). You can find out more about this work here.
