Women in Scotland are disproportionately impacted by the housing emergency.

The situation is even worse for women dealing with multiple layers of inequality. BME, disabled, and refugee women, lone parents, and those with caring responsibilities, often face relentless difficulty in securing stable housing.

Join Shelter Scotland and Engender for this joint webinar session exploring their new briefing which demonstrates the multiple barriers that our current housing system stacks in front of women, and the shocking ways it ignores their specific needs, pushing women into cycles of poverty and instability.

By attending, you will:

  • Understand how decades of underinvestment in social homes combined with years of austerity has created a housing system which does not work for women.
  • Learn about the changes needed to social security to tackle women’s economic inequality, which restricts their access to housing.
  • Discover and discuss the action required to address the housing emergency from a gendered perspective, including Investment in research and improved data collection to ensure women’s homelessness is better understood.

 You will hear from:

  • Shelter Scotland
  • Engender
  • Ubuntu Women’s Shelter
  • The Bridges Partnership Project

Who is the event for?

Anyone is welcome to attend, but the webinar will be particularly useful for professionals working in policy development, advocacy and campaigns related to housing, homelessness, the cost of living crisis, domestic abuse and women’s equality.
