Bearing the Burden: Women’s Debt in the Cost of Living Crisis

Bearing the Burden: Women’s Debt in the Cost of Living Crisis

April 26, 2024, 12.00 – 13.30

Zoom

The booking deadline for this event has passed. If you would like to attend, please email info@engender.org.uk.

Women in Scotland are disproportionately impacted by rising poverty and deepening financial inequality.

A clear example of this is the fact that women are more likely to be in debt than men, with marginalised women particularly impacted, such as disabled women, young women, Black and minority ethnic women, those experiencing domestic abuse and lone parents.

Join us for an afternoon of exploration, where we will discuss the many ways in which gender inequality is a cause and consequence of women’s financial inequality, and why this must shape our solutions and calls for change.

By attending, you will:

  • Understand more about the debt women are experiencing in Scotland, including findings from recent research.

  • Learn how women’s debt is a consequence and cause of gender inequality and links to experiences of domestic abuse.

  • Discover and discuss the policy solutions required to tackle women’s debt and the gendered nature of the wider cost of living crisis.

 You will hear from:

  • StepChange UK

  • Scottish Women’s Aid

  • Engender

Who is the event for?

We welcome anyone to attend but the webinar will be particularly useful for professionals working in policy development, advocacy and campaigns related to the cost of living crisis, debt advice, anti-poverty, social security and the economy.
