Image copyright Rebecca Homes PhotographyJune 2011 - Minister for Equalities, Lynne Featherstone has issued a message stating the governments commitment to equality after concern from stakeholders at the inclusion of the Equality Act in the  the Red Tape Challenge.  Read the message from the Minister

May 2011 - T he government have launched an online public consultation which offers people the chance to determine which peices of legislation should be changed or be scrapped altogether. The 2010 Equality Act is on the site and the public are asked if the law should stay as it is or be 'srapped altogether'. This is a piece of legislation that protects us all from discrimination and to present it a piece of 'Red Tape' that is making life akward for us all is disingenuous. Please look at the site and vote to keep the Equality law. See Red Tape Challenge - Equalities

Equality Act 2010

The Equality Act became law on 1st October 2010.  Due to the review of some sections of the bill by the new coalition government, much of the equal  pay proposals are not included, making it a much weaker piece of legislation than that initially introduced by Harriet Harman MP and passed by Parliament in April this year.
