Niki Kandirikirira – Executive Director
Niki Kandirikirira spent 18 years working in Africa with VSO, British Red Cross [Sudanese Red Crescent] and most extensively, ACORD, a non-governmental organisation working with some of the poorest people in the continent. Her posts included Project Co-ordination, Country Co-ordination and finally Country Representation roles for Acord in Uganda and Namibia.
During her time in Africa, she developed a social exclusion analysis tool that explored the relationship between sexism, racism, ethnicity, adult-child relations and heterosexism that was adopted by Acord, Unicef and the Namibian Government. She has written articles, book chapters and made presentations about the use of this tool with regard to masculinities, racism and gender violence in post apartheid Africa in cooperation Bradford, LSE and Sussex Universities.
On returning to the UK Niki was involved in the change process of Acord as they restructured into an Africa-led international organisation. On moving to Scotland she has worked as Head of Policy and Research with the Scottish Human Services Trust and has most recently been self-employed managing Another World Inclusive (Ltd), her own consultancy company that promotes social inclusion, equality and diversity through the facilitation of transformative research and change management processes, training, coaching and mentoring.
Carol Flack - Policy Lead
Carol has worked in London and latterly in Scotland on a wide variety of projects in the fields of homelessness, mental health, counselling, violence against women, health promotion, citizenship and participation. Her first degree was in Psychology and she is also a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor with a Masters Degree in Advanced Professional Studies. Carol was one of the original Development Workers with the Scottish Women’s Convention and since 2003 the main focus of her work and motivation has been to increase women’s participation and voice in the policy making process in Scotland. Now as Policy Lead at Engender Carol is keen to contribute to the organisation’s work to address women’s unequal position in society, increase their power and influence and thereby improve their lives. Karen Dargo – Communications Lead
Karen has a long-standing interest in women’s issues and in particular women’s history. She spent most of her working life in the financial sector and has also done volunteer work as a helpline councillor. She joined Engender as our Administrator in 2004, where she was involved in communicating with members, organising events and maintaining the Engender website. In April 2007 she took up post as Acting Communications Officer, and is now our Communications Lead, where her role is to deliver Engenders message to our members, partner organisations and politicians and raise awareness of Engender among the general public. She has a BA in Communication Studies.
Lynsey Wilson - Administrator (temp)
Lynsey has just graduated from Napier University with a BA in Business Studies and is working with Engender to gain work experience.
