Counting Women In launched

Engender are proud to support the Counting Women In campaign group which was launched this week. The campaign is calling for 50/50 representation - having equal numbers of women and men - at all levels of govenment.
45 of our 129 MSPs in Scottish Parliament are women, while at Westminster male MPs outnumber female MPs by 4 to 1 which means that when issues are discussed and policy is made, womens perspectives and experiences are missing from the debate. At the current rate of progress it will take another 14 general elections, or up to 70 years to ahieve an equal number of women MPs.
