Over the past two years, Engender has been working with Professor Kirstein Rummery to examine how care policy could be used to achieve gender equality, and what Scotland could learn from care policies around the world.
This conference will examine issues such as childcare and long-term care, and how these impact on gender equality, with input from expert speakers including Shona Robison MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Sport, Jackie Baillie MSP and Alison Johnstone MSP. The conference will be chaired by Kaliani Lyle, Scotland Commissioner of the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
Participants will discuss questions including:
Can we use care policy to improve gender equality in Scotland?
- What could we do now in Scotland?
- Do we need additional powers or conditions?
- What role can Holyrood and Westminster play?
- What role can civic society, businesses, and the third sector play?
Childcare will be provided (either through an in-house creche, or we can reimburse childcare costs), please specify if you require this on the booking form. Childcare must be requested by 1st October.
