Welcome to our very first e-newsletter! In the spirit of trying something new, we’re not publishing a newsletter this quarter but hope this format will get our news out to a lot of our contacts who don’t usually come across our printed version. So, you’ve read this far, hope you find the rest of interest…

We’re living in interesting, if uncertain, times with the constant flow of bad economic news leading us all to feel apprehensive about the year ahead. The challenge for Engender is to ensure that in tough times equalities work is not seen as a luxury. While it’s never been easy to secure funding for gender equality projects, there is currently a whole wave of funders who don’t (or won’t) recognise the huge gap in life chances that that still exists between women and men and as a result are unwilling to fund projects which attempt to address this.
Our work continues apace but there is so much more we would like to do in terms of our three main themes – Poverty, Power and Participation and Violence Against Women. We’ll continue to submit funding applications and hope for the best in the coming months.

For now, we want to share our current projects with you and if any of the work is of interest, please get in touch – we have a range of Associates ready to tailor any equalities training to your needs and also GEMS (Gender Equality Mentors) who work with managers in the public sector guiding them through equalities legislation to ensure good practice.

Enough from me now, here’s what’s going on in Engender-land…
