Transphobia and Feminism

In response to columnist Julie Burchill’s recent transphobic article, journalist and blogger Laurie Penny decided to write her own article on feminism and transphobia. Instead of publishing her piece in any of the mainsteam media outlets that she sees as having rallied around Burchill in the name of free speech, Penny published her article independently, saying, “I don’t want it to become part of the symbolic face-off going on between British press outlets this week. I want us to get back to the issues.”
